SOSMobile’s Role in Helping One Small Maine Water Company Increase Efficiency

Boothbay Region Water District, a small Maine water utility serving Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport, needed to eliminate inefficient paper-based work orders and improve field data collection. In 2015, the district began using InsightAtlast’s SOSMobile with Northern Data Systems’ EDIFICE customer information system to address delays, handwriting issues, and time-consuming manual updates.

InsightAtlast implemented SOSMobile so work orders could be pushed electronically to Android phones, completed in the field, and sent back automatically to EDIFICE with meter readings, parts used, crew time, work notes, and status updates. The result was more accurate data, reduced billing lag, real-time inventory tracking, and a faster, more efficient work order cycle, with the system also improving meter location, serial number lookup, and access to past work history.
