Weka Smart Vaccine Fridge Improves Patient Care

Weka Health Solutions wanted a smarter way to store, track, and dispense vaccines safely, especially in locations with unreliable power and manual inventory processes that can lead to spoilage, theft, and costly errors. To support its connected vaccine-fridge vision, Weka worked with Insight and Microsoft technologies including Azure, Dynamics CRM Online, and a Windows-based Surface kiosk.

Insight, through its BlueMetal team, helped build a cloud-connected IoT solution that monitors fridge temperature, motor and sensor health, and location in real time, while automating inventory updates and alerts. The system uses Azure IoT Hub, Stream Analytics, SQL Database, DocumentDB, Blob storage, and Service Bus to keep clinics informed and protect vaccine stock; Weka reports that clinicians can reduce inventory losses, save more than $1,000 per month in labor costs for a practice dispensing about 400 vaccines monthly, and prevent spoilage and reimbursement losses while improving patient safety.
