Microsoft Enters the Prediction Market to Engage Users

Microsoft Corporation’s Microsoft Research wanted to create a predictive markets and polling platform where users could submit predictions on topics like politics and sports. The challenge was to turn an early proof of concept into a commercial-grade, scalable product with a compelling user experience, all on a very tight timeline. Microsoft partnered with Insight, through its BlueMetal division, for architectural expertise and a consumer-grade product design approach.

Insight delivered a cloud-based solution built with an AngularJS single-page application, Java, SQL Azure, and Azure Cloud Services, with federated authentication to simplify user access. The result was a scalable, gamified prediction platform that validated the engine’s performance and positioned Microsoft for future expansion across devices and other platforms. Insight completed the project in just 15 weeks, helping Microsoft Research launch a sustainable, engaging solution on schedule.
