The National School Lunch Program, a state agency administering school nutrition benefits, needed a faster way to automatically determine which children were eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Its challenge was matching records from SNAP and TANF data sources despite incomplete, duplicate, and inconsistent information such as name variations, moved addresses, and missing Social Security numbers.

InRule implemented InRule for Microsoft Dynamics CRM to automate direct certification using matching rules and algorithms that could identify likely record matches without code changes. With InRule, the state raised its direct certification rate from about 60% to more than 90% in two years and added over 50,000 children to the School Lunch Program, helping more students receive meals more quickly.
