Cancer Care Ontario streamlines 31 drugs across 103 hospitals with InRule

Cancer Care Ontario, the provincial agency responsible for improving cancer services, faced a significant challenge with its New Drug Funding Program (NDFP). Their legacy Oracle Forms-based system could not keep pace with the complexity of new and changing drug policies, requiring extensive software effort for each update. This resulted in delays that prevented new drugs from being made available to patients in a timely manner. To eliminate paperwork and streamline operations, they needed a modern, web-based solution.

Affinity Systems implemented a solution for Cancer Care Ontario using the InRule Business Rules Management System (BRMS). This allowed non-technical policy administrators to define, test, and deploy rules without requiring a software release. The result was an agile, adaptable system that easily supports new policies. The project was so successful that InRule was included in the organization's Centre of Excellence software suite for use in other applications.
