Affinity Systems Leverages Inrule® for Cancer Care Ontario

Cancer Care Ontario (CCO), the Ontario government’s cancer advisor, needed to modernize its New Drug Funding Program, which had become increasingly difficult to manage with an older Oracle Forms-based system. As drug policies, reporting requirements, and patient volumes grew, the legacy application could not keep up, forcing manual work and slowing the rollout of new drugs. CCO partnered with Affinity Systems and InRule to replace the outdated process with a more flexible, web-based approach.

Affinity Systems implemented a centralized portal using InRule’s business rules management platform, including tools for rule authoring, testing, and integration. By moving business logic into InRule, CCO can now update drug policies without software changes or deployments, giving business users ownership of rule changes and creating a more agile, adaptable system. The solution also became part of CCO’s Centre of Excellence suite, making InRule available for other complex rule-based applications.
