Case Study: I-95 Corridor Coalition improves traffic data quality with INRIX

A INRIX Case Study

Preview of the I-95 Corridor Coalition Case Study

I-95 Corridor Coalition sole contractor for the Vehicle Probe Project (VPP)

The I-95 Corridor Coalition required a supplier for its groundbreaking Vehicle Probe Project (VPP) to provide real-time traffic data across a vast multi-state highway network. The challenge was to not only supply this data but to have its quality independently and rigorously validated against strict contractual performance metrics, specifically for freeway speed accuracy and bias. INRIX was selected as the sole vendor for this project.

The solution involved INRIX providing its traffic data services, which were subjected to the world's largest ongoing freeway data validation program, conducted by the University of Maryland. Over six years, 42 validation tests across 11 states demonstrated that INRIX data consistently met the contract's demanding quality requirements for Average Absolute Speed Error and Speed Error Bias. The results proved INRIX's reliability, leading to a project expansion from covering 1,950 freeway miles to over 40,000 roadway miles, and established numerous industry firsts for the use of private traffic data by government agencies.
