Case Study: City of Calgary improves traffic analytics and road planning with INRIX Roadway Analytics

A INRIX Case Study

Preview of the City of Calgary Case Study

How calgary is transforming how they measure the impact of travel time and road improvements

The City of Calgary needed a better way to estimate travel times and measure the impact of road projects. Before working with INRIX, the city relied on labor-intensive Bluetooth readers and GPS drive runs to collect traffic data, which was expensive to maintain and difficult to scale across a rapidly growing city. To improve its roadway performance analysis, Calgary turned to INRIX Roadway Analytics.

INRIX implemented a five-year solution that gave Calgary on-demand traffic data, before-and-after performance studies, congestion heat maps, bottleneck rankings, trend views, and travel time reporting for dynamic message signs. The city found the implementation quick and accurate, validating INRIX against GPS runs, and estimated it could cut maintenance and labor costs by up to 50%. With INRIX, Calgary reduced the need for manual traffic collection and gained a more reliable, scalable source of transportation data.
