How BMW Group uses real-time location technology and software for intelligent inventory management

BMW Group needed a better way to manage and retrieve design models of its vehicles across multiple warehouse locations after its legacy barcode-based check-in/check-out system was nearing expiration and search times were becoming slow and manual. BMW Group also wanted a solution that could automatically track inventory in real time without scanning and work without interfering with existing radio-based systems. Inpixon, through its INTRANAV inventory management software, was selected to help address these needs.

Inpixon implemented INTRANAV Inventory Manager with Wirepas mesh connectivity and ELA Innovation BLE tags to provide real-time location tracking, automated inventory capture, and search/filter tools across warehouses. The result was faster searches, fewer inventory errors, and a smooth installation completed in two days with no operational disruption. BMW Group also shut down its legacy system, reduced the need for scanning devices, gained better transparency over inventory locations, and achieved daily time and cost savings through easier, more efficient vehicle tracking.
