Co-ordinating services within a large setting to save precious time in the deployment of the portering team

The University Hospital of Wales faced slow, inefficient portering across its large campus: a 58-strong team was tied to a central base, communication relied on pen-and-paper and ward phones, and response times frustrated staff and patients. To solve this, the hospital engaged Innovise to supply its Portertrac portering management software.

Innovise implemented Portertrac with real-time task allocation to handheld devices, on-site training and 24-hour support, allowing porters to be strategically mobile and respond faster. The change saved an average of 4,166 working hours a year, freed nurses to reclaim 2,800 hours, added roughly 1,400 hours of portering service, and delivered quicker responses, better information sharing and optimized staff time.
