Reliance Communications Ltd., one of India’s largest telecoms with over 150 million subscribers, faced a daily operational challenge: its Decision Support team had to process and report on hundreds of millions of call detail records (CDRs) within a narrow daily batch window to meet billing SLAs. Traditional ETL attempts were slow and error-prone as volumes grew. To solve this, Reliance turned to Innovative Routines International (IRI) and its CoSort product (using SortCL) to handle the heavy file-based transforms prior to ETL and BI processing.

Innovative Routines International (IRI) implemented CoSort SortCL scripts to filter, sort, join, and aggregate flat files in the 30–60GB range, eliminating the prior processing bottleneck and producing consistently accurate transforms. As a result, downstream ETL and Business Objects reporting succeed within the required batch window, Reliance meets its SLA commitments, and the team runs more than 100 CoSort job scripts in production — achieving the needed performance without continually adding hardware.
