InfoSpace Speeds Warehousing Filtering with CoSort's Join Function

InfoSpace, a global provider of promotion infrastructure for wireless carriers and merchants, needed to rapidly sort and filter millions of raw transaction rows from member banks to identify customers registered for promotions without overloading their Oracle data warehouse. To meet that challenge they implemented Innovative Routines International (IRI)’s CoSORT solution, using CoSORT’s sortcl and its integrated join functionality to perform high-speed, outside-the-database filtering and remapping.

IRI’s CoSORT was installed on Sun UltraSPARC servers and used sortcl’s single-pass join, sort, merge and reshaping features to extract and transform files from multiple banks. The result was dramatically faster processing—about five times faster than UNIX sort and two to three times faster than the nearest competitor—eliminating custom database loads, cutting development and setup costs, and improving the company’s operational window and overall network efficiency. Innovative Routines International (IRI) also provided prompt support and comprehensive documentation.
