Case Study: LG01 achieves dramatic runtime reductions and high-speed, high-volume data warehousing with Innovative Routines International (IRI)

CoSort Slashes Runtimes in Automotive Data Warehouse

LG01, a U.K. data-warehousing consultancy, was implementing a large-scale automotive data warehouse and ran into serious performance and complexity problems: the client required direct querying of the operational database (complex joins, sorts and filters), which made extraction slow and placed unacceptable strain on production servers, while the ETL tool needed extensive hand-scripting due to poor parameterization. LG01 adopted Innovative Routines International (IRI)’s CoSORT to address these issues.

Using IRI’s CoSORT to process fast flat-file dumps on a separate server (leveraging parallel CPU and RAM usage), LG01 performed the joins and filters off the operational system and piped CoSORT output through Perl for parameterized transforms. The solution drastically cut runtimes, removed load from production servers, delivered the project under budget and on time, and—per LG01—provided strong functionality at a fraction of the cost; LG01 now recommends CoSORT and cites responsive support from Innovative Routines International (IRI).
