CoSort Integrates and Transforms Financial Data for Thomson Reuters

Thomson Reuters, a global leader in financial information and BI data, faced the challenge of consolidating and normalizing multiple large, disparate sources of user data to support ad hoc analysis and reporting (more than 1.5GB of daily data). To address this, they evaluated and selected Innovative Routines International (IRI) and its CoSort product, using the SortCL data manipulation language to replace slower homegrown aggregation tools.

IRI implemented CoSort SortCL job scripts to sort, join, deduplicate, conditionally select, aggregate and remap fields, leveraging SortCL’s metadata repository to define layouts centrally and produce multiple output formats in a single pass. The result was rapid integration and transformation of huge files, normalized data ready for reporting, faster development (complex jobs written in days), strong price-performance for high-volume processing, and significant time savings in execution and maintenance—backed by responsive IRI support.
