A Ingenious Med Case Study
The Schumacher Group, a Lafayette, La.–based multi-state provider of emergency department and hospitalist services, launched its hospitalist division in 2006 and now staffs 160 hospitalists across 22 hospitals. Facing a constant need for mobile, reliable charge capture and physician-to-physician communication, Schumacher turned to Ingenious Med’s web-based charge capture solution so hospitalists can enter charges and access patient information from smartphones whether or not hospital Wi‑Fi or high-speed Internet is available.
Ingenious Med implemented a mobile, web-accessible platform with features such as cross-cover sheets, instant messaging, documentation summaries for outpatient physicians, and business intelligence reporting from charge data. The solution improved documentation and coding (with instant feedback from coding specialists and access to a master coder), enhanced clinical communication, enabled timely transmission of diagnoses, procedures and labs to post‑discharge providers, and produced physician-level metrics (average length of stay, readmission rates) used by Schumacher leadership — demonstrating clear operational and clinical impact from Ingenious Med’s system.
