Case Study: Ericsson accelerates Massive IoT rollouts and optimizes network performance with Infovista's Planet

A Infovista Case Study

Preview of the Ericsson Case Study

Refining Network Design for Massive IoT Deployments

Ericsson needed to design and deploy Massive IoT at scale — supporting very high device densities, extended coverage, long battery life, and coexistence with existing mobile broadband — while reducing time to market and controlling CAPEX/OPEX. To address these challenges Ericsson partnered with Infovista and used its Planet network planning and simulation software to model diverse IoT use cases, predict capacity/coverage trade‑offs, and assess impact on LTE users before commercial launch.

Using Infovista’s Planet, Ericsson optimized RAN features and frequency strategies to achieve up to 15–20 dB extended coverage and support device lifetimes of more than 10 years in some configurations, while balancing coverage versus capacity and minimizing LTE impact. Infovista’s tool accelerated roadmap delivery (supporting aggressive deployments such as early customer projects in Japan), reduced field testing and drive‑test costs, and shortened time‑to‑market by enabling accurate KPIs, SLAs and proactive mitigation.
