How Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township Combats Ransomware With Infosec IQ

The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township, a large Indiana district serving 16,500 students, 2,500 employees and managing over 15,000 devices, faced a growing ransomware problem after suffering four attacks in a few years. CTO Pete Just responded by shifting to workforce education and enrolling staff in Infosec IQ security awareness training to reduce phishing and malware risk.

Infosec delivered personalized learning and phishing simulations that let the district identify at‑risk employees, deliver just‑in‑time modules (from three to 20 minutes), and customize campaigns and reporting; Pete also used a train‑the‑trainer iTEC team and positive reinforcement to change behavior. As a result of using Infosec IQ and other controls, the district has remained ransomware‑free since deploying these changes in late 2017, significantly improving its security posture.
