Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center - Customer Case Study

Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, a 424‑bed hospital in Los Angeles, was hit in February 2016 by the Locky ransomware, which encrypted systems and blocked access to medical records and imaging, forcing some patient diversions and a return to paper processes. The attack demanded 40 Bitcoin (about $17,000) and exposed a lack of usable backups and weak security controls; Infosec was engaged to respond to the incident.

Infosec led incident‑response efforts to remove the Locky malware, thoroughly test systems, and restore operations; all services were reported cleared and back online by February 15 (ten days after the attack). The vendor’s remediation returned the hospital to normal operations, prevented further reported breaches, and produced clear, measurable outcomes: eradication of the active infection and full system restoration within ten days.
