A Information Transport Solutions Case Study

Jackson County School District works with Cisco partner ITS to deploy a network to expand opportunities for its K-12 students

Jackson County School District in Alabama, serving 6,000 students across 18 schools and 810 staff members, faced major networking and communications challenges due to its large geographic area. Long distances between sites made network administration and troubleshooting difficult and time-consuming, while multiple telephone providers created expensive toll charges between locations. Working with Information Transport Solutions (ITS), the district looked to improve connectivity and support new learning technologies, including distance learning.

Information Transport Solutions (ITS) implemented a fiber-based Cisco WAN with converged voice and data services, including Cisco Unified Communications, Cisco routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, and IP phones. The result was a standardized districtwide communications system, expanded bandwidth for new applications, and better support for distance learning and video streaming. The district reported savings in telecommunications, maintenance, travel, and support costs, while also improving curriculum options, student customization, and operational efficiency.
