Distance Learning Eliminates Disparities in Learning Opportunities for one of the largest school districts in the United States

Mobile County Public Schools, one of the largest districts in the U.S., faced a major challenge: its 65,000+ students were spread across more than 100 school buildings over 1,644 square miles, creating uneven access to advanced, honors, and required courses. Working with Information Transport Solutions and TANDBERG video communications, the district used interactive videoconferencing (IVC) to help bridge those instructional gaps and support the ACCESS distance learning initiative.

Information Transport Solutions helped Mobile County Public Schools deploy IVC equipment and video-enabled classrooms across middle and high schools, using state, district, and E-rate funding. The result was broader access to gifted and advanced coursework, the ability to teach students in multiple locations at once, reduced travel and substitute-teacher costs, and easier staff development meetings. The district reported 21 middle and high schools equipped, 13 grant-recipient schools, and all 13 high schools with video-enabled classrooms, significantly expanding learning opportunities for students.
