Case Study: City of Fort Wayne accelerates WAN applications and reduces bandwidth costs with Information Transport Solutions and Cisco WAAS

A Information Transport Solutions Case Study

Preview of the City of Fort Wayne Case Study

Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) speeds media-rich applications across the WAN, while enabling centralization of application, file, and print servers

The City of Fort Wayne, a municipal government in Indiana, needed to centralize remote application, file, and print servers across more than 40 locations without degrading user experience over its T1 WAN links. Working with Information Transport Solutions and Cisco, the city looked for a way to support media-rich applications, video conferencing, and training content while avoiding the cost of additional bandwidth.

Information Transport Solutions helped implement Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) across the city’s existing Cisco network to accelerate file transfers and support server consolidation. The solution reduced WAN bandwidth consumption by 40–50 percent on average, cut some transfers to less than 20 percent of previous time, eliminated the need for additional T1 links, and delivered a payback period of about 12–18 months while enabling future voice and video applications.
