WebFOCUS Scores High Marks With Texas A&M University-Commerce

Texas A&M University‑Commerce, a regional institution of 12,490 students, developed the state’s first fully competency‑based (CBE) online bachelor’s program while managing 144 academic programs. The university struggled with hidden, disjointed data and spreadsheet‑driven reporting that created silos and manual work, making it difficult to monitor student progress, program performance, regulatory requirements, and the CBE program’s seven‑week cadence.

By deploying Information Builders’ WebFOCUS platform (Portal, AppStudio, InfoAssist, RStat and related tools) the school implemented self‑service dashboards, parameterized reports and predictive models to consolidate data and automate KPIs and daily metrics. The initiative created a data‑informed culture—about 400 users and 90 hits on day one—saving five hours a day on enrollment reporting, reducing ad‑hoc requests by more than half, boosting survey response to 72%, and improving recruitment, retention, compliance reporting and support for the CBE program.
