State of California Deploys WebFOCUS Improved Spending Forecasts Help Agency Stay on Budget

The California Department of Health Services (DHS), one of the state's largest agencies with more than 5,000 employees, needed to help program managers stay on budget by accelerating access to critical financial data. Legacy mainframe reporting and paper-based processes made month-end information slow and difficult to use, delaying forecasts and budget decisions.

DHS partnered with Information Builders to deploy WebFOCUS, iWay middleware and consulting, moving mainframe data into SQL Server and building the CORE reporting environment and an Expenditure Forecast Reporting (EFR) system. The web-based solution gives users instant, drillable access to transactions and forecasts, delivers month-end reports the next day (removing a 5–7 day delay), eliminates paper-heavy manual work, improves accuracy, and enables managers to project year-end balances to keep programs on budget.
