South Africa’s Western Cape Education Department Shares and Manages Information With WebFOCUS

The Western Cape Education Department, which supports more than 1,500 public schools and over 1 million students, needed a consistent, cost‑effective way to analyze and distribute data so it could prioritize investments, allocate teaching posts, and address issues like high student/teacher ratios and dropout rates across a large and diverse province.

Using Information Builders’ WebFOCUS (Reporting Server, ReportCaster, Maintain) with Oracle and ESRI adapters and a self‑service intranet/extranet, the department delivered parameter‑driven reporting and GIS mapping so managers can run their own analyses and visualize spatial trends. The solution produced faster, more accurate decision‑making, better cross‑department communication, reduced pressure on central IT, and cost‑effective prioritization of teachers, infrastructure and other resources.
