SEMARNAT Uses WebFOCUS to Encourage Protection of Natural Resources

Mexico’s Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) needed to modernize how it collected, processed and shared environmental data from its nationwide network of offices. Previously reliant on manual analysis and print publications, the agency sought a centralized platform to integrate disparate databases, maps and reports and to meet growing internal and public demand for timely, accurate information.

SEMARNAT implemented Information Builders’ WebFOCUS suite (Reporting Server, Active Technologies Reports and adapters for Oracle, SQL Server and Esri) to build the National System of Environmental and Natural Resources Information (SNIARN) and related tools like SNIA and BADESNIARN. The new system automates updates, supports ad hoc queries and geographic integration, enabling more frequent distribution of information, faster, better-informed decision-making and improved public access—while paving the way for mobile access and advanced mapping features.
