L.B. Foster Enhances Operations With BI and Performance Management

L.B. Foster, a Pittsburgh-based manufacturer, fabricates and distributes materials for transportation and construction infrastructure. As the company grew, managers struggled to access, analyze, and present data from disparate systems (JD Edwards ERP, Sage CRM, 200+ Lotus Notes apps and Excel), forcing time-consuming manual work—such as creating bills of materials that took two to three hours daily.

L.B. Foster implemented Information Builders’ WebFOCUS self-service BI and Performance Management Framework, using native adapters to access JD Edwards, Lotus Notes and Excel without a data warehouse, supported by training and professional services. The BI team built roughly 400 reports and applications, enabling about 100 users to self-serve, automating previously manual tasks, speeding safety and operational reporting, and improving accuracy, productivity, visibility and alignment with corporate strategy.
