Houston Police Department Creates Real-Time Crime Center

Information Builders, a provider of scalable data management and analytics solutions, partnered with the Houston Police Department — the nation’s fourth-largest law enforcement agency — to solve a critical information gap. Houston had a large historic crime data warehouse but lacked real-time integration and user-friendly tools to enrich incoming call data, make analysis broadly accessible, and give commanders timely, actionable intelligence while officers were responding to incidents.

Using WebFOCUS, Law Enforcement Analytics (LEA), iWay, Magnify and other components, Information Builders helped build a real‑time crime center that integrates, matches and cleanses data, pushes intelligence to officers’ mobile devices, and delivers mapping and drill‑down dashboards for commanders. The deployment improved officer and public safety, sped crime identification and resolution, and enabled chiefs to reallocate resources quickly by acting on near real‑time crime trends and refreshed statistics.
