First Rate Generates Billions of Nightly Returns With Information Builders’ Technology

First Rate is a provider of portfolio analysis and performance-measurement software for investment advisors and financial institutions. The company faces a massive nightly data challenge: ingesting holdings and transaction records for more than 2 million accounts and generating and storing over 1 billion account-return records within roughly six hours while meeting strict SLAs and supporting global growth.

First Rate addressed this by deploying Information Builders’ WebFOCUS and related technologies on a horizontally scalable farm of 16 multi-core servers with SSD-optimized scratch space, enabling ~40,000 returns/sec per machine and processing about 1 TB of data and 2.5 million portfolios per hour overnight. The solution improved reporting efficiency and flexibility, supported expansion into Europe and Asia, and helped First Rate win business from 350+ institutions and 4,000+ advisors, produce over 2 million statements per month, and realize about a 10% annual revenue uplift from the ExecView InfoApp.
