Case Study: Kansas City Police Department achieves proactive crime prevention and integrated intelligence with Information Builders

A Information Builders Case Study

Preview of the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) Case Study

Creating a Culture of Integrated Justice and Information Sharing

Information Builders partnered with the Kansas City Police Department (serving 464,000 residents) to support the department’s new Law Enforcement Resource Center and a shift from reactive to proactive policing. KCPD’s challenge was to unify more than 27 disparate data sources and deliver timely, contextual crime information to officers in one or two clicks so they could quickly detect patterns and respond more effectively.

Using WebFOCUS, the WebFOCUS BI Portal (iShare), iWay Integration and Data Quality suites and Professional Services, Information Builders consolidated data into a comprehensive warehouse (about 700 integration processes), created “golden records, ” and enabled customizable dashboards, storyboards and widgets for self-service analytics. The result: faster, data-driven investigations (illustrated by a highway-shooter arrest), improved pattern detection and information sharing, and a scalable platform KCPD can expand statewide.
