The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit attracting over 2 million visitors annually, faced fragmented data across ticketing, POS, accounting and homegrown systems, making it hard to track expenses versus budgets, monitor campaign and membership progress, or produce timely day-to-day reports for operational decisions.
Partnering with Information Builders, the zoo standardized on WebFOCUS and built a unified data warehouse and BI portals for membership, revenue, and education—using dashboards, parameterized reports, Active Technologies and ReportCaster for mobile delivery. The solution eliminated manual reporting, gave managers daily visibility into key metrics, improved revenue and campaign tracking, and helped the organization enhance the guest experience while being more fiscally responsible to donors.
