Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD Fights Crime With Predictive Analytics

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), which serves more than 700,000 residents with 1,716 officers and 530 civilian staff, faced slow, manual analysis across 13 disparate data sources to track crime, spot trends, and allocate resources. The department needed a way to consolidate data and push timely, relevant intelligence to commanders and officers in the field.

CMPD implemented Information Builders’ WebFOCUS Law Enforcement Analytics with RStat and iWay DataMigrator to build an operational data store, role-specific dashboards (delivered to patrol vehicles), and seven predictive models that forecast crime likelihood by time and location. The result: real-time, actionable intelligence for officers and supervisors, more effective targeted deployments (including successful burglary interventions), streamlined analyst workflows, reduced operating costs, and measurable reductions in crime.
