Cascades, a North American and European manufacturer of recycled-fiber packaging and tissue products with about 12,000 employees, needed to roll out SAP ERP across dozens of plants while keeping legacy AS/400 and other systems running. Cascades standardized on Information Builders’ iWay Service Manager (with professional services) to collect GE Proficy sensor logs, move files via secure FTP and later message queuing, and integrate AS/400 DB2 and SQL Server data with SAP. The solution now handles about 20,000 daily transactions, is live in 15 plants (scaling to 60–65), and gives managers continuous, accurate visibility into production, sales and finance—supporting JIT manufacturing, better forecasting, and reduced inventory costs.
