Case Study: HP achieves 85-to-3 data center consolidation, billions in cost savings and 99.9% availability with Informatica

A Informatica Case Study

Preview of the HP Case Study

Using PowerCenter HP consolidated 85 data centers into three and reduced computing expenses by billions of dollars

HP, a multinational IT company, needed to consolidate 85 data centers into three sites to cut computing costs by billions and migrate decision‑support applications (finance, inventory, purchasing, etc.). The project required moving more than 75 applications and roughly 40 TB of data across multiple databases on a tight timeline while ensuring high availability for mission‑critical systems.

Using the Informatica suite—including PowerCenter, PowerExchange and data‑quality/verification tools—and an Integration Competency Center supporting 400 users, HP completed the migration and consolidation in 18 months. The effort reduced computing expenses by billions, consolidated 85 data centers into three, and delivered 99.9% availability for critical applications.
