UPMC - Customer Case Study

UPMC, a $10 billion integrated health system with more than 20 hospitals and 400 clinical locations, faced a growing data challenge as it expanded through mergers and diversified into research and international services. The organization needed to connect hundreds of clinical, financial, administrative and genomic sources across some 1,200 applications to create longitudinal patient records, control costs, enable personalized medicine and give clinicians and researchers timely, trustworthy data for decision-making.

To address this, UPMC launched a $100 million Enterprise Analytics initiative built on an Informatica-based data integration, master data management and governance platform that cleanses and harmonizes data and supports self-service analytics. Eight months into the five-year program researchers were already able to link clinical and genomic records for 140 breast cancer patients—revealing novel molecular differences—and UPMC has deployed governance, privacy controls and analytical tools to accelerate research, improve care benchmarking and put data in the hands of clinicians and administrators.
