Case Study: Southwest Power Pool achieves near-real-time analytics—cutting analysis from one day to 20 minutes with Informatica

A Informatica Case Study

Preview of the Southwest Power Pool Case Study

The Informatica Platform and data replication solution reduced typical analysis time from one day to 20 minutes

Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is a regional transmission organization that manages the bulk electrical grid for about 15 million customers and is launching an Integrated Marketplace to better balance regional supply and demand and save members roughly $100 million annually. To support day‑ahead and real‑time wholesale trading and meet FERC/NERC reporting requirements, SPP needed to replicate massive transactional data from 400+ source systems into an analytics environment without impacting production performance.

SPP implemented the Informatica Platform—including PowerCenter, PowerExchange, Data Replication and Data Explorer—to enable near‑real‑time replication into an analytics‑optimized store for reporting and analysis. The solution reduced typical analysis time from one day to 20 minutes, allowing more and faster simulations and improving the reliability and cost-effectiveness of energy services.
