The Cancer Council of New South Wales accurately identified patient records across 54 pathology laboratories

The NSW Cancer Council is a not-for-profit organization that runs prevention, support and referral services across New South Wales, including the long-standing Pap Test Register which tracks cervical screening and follow-up. The register must consolidate results from the state’s 54 pathology laboratories and accurately link each new test to an existing patient record despite common data issues such as name changes, address moves, spelling errors and inconsistent formats.

The Council implemented Informatica Identity Resolution’s fuzzy-match technology to combine demographic fields with cultural rules and distinctive test attributes, improving automated record linkage and follow-up workflows. As a result, the register now processes more than 50,000 Pap tests per month, has helped one million NSW women receive regular screening and ensures timely follow-up care for women with cervical abnormalities.
