PPL Electric Utilities, which serves 1.4 million customers in central and eastern Pennsylvania, needed to replace a legacy payment system used for procuring and paying wholesale energy suppliers under its Provider of Last Resort obligations. The legacy solution handled accounting controls and accounts payable interfaces but could not reliably create and validate payment details, support a new invoicing strategy, or meet required service level agreements.

PPL’s IT team built a new framework using Informatica (PowerCenter) and MicroStrategy to deliver a scalable, reliable invoicing application. The solution gives approvers the ability to analyze data and catch exceptions before approval, adjust or cancel invoices when needed, and streamline the procurement-to-payment process, improving efficiency and providing a long technical shelf life.
