Telkomsel, Indonesia’s largest mobile operator with more than 163 million subscribers and a network spanning 124,000 BTS sites, faced a massive big-data challenge: ingesting and processing over 18 billion call detail records per day from diverse equipment and preparing for rising M2M volumes. Data silos, high storage and management costs, inconsistent data quality, and the lack of a single view of business performance were limiting timely decision-making and new monetization opportunities.
Telkomsel deployed Informatica as its enterprise data collection and processing layer atop a 700-node Cloudera Hadoop environment, with Informatica automatically staging non-Hadoop data for processing. The solution unified data pipelines, reduced hand-coding, improved data governance and quality, and enabled near real-time insights—driving new revenue streams from M2M, market differentiation, and more efficient IT resource allocation.
