Sypris Electronics, a provider of high-mix, low-to-medium-volume electronics manufacturing and engineering services for defense and aerospace customers, needed a secure, compliant way to exchange sensitive, defense-related documents. The company was burdened by manual copying, insecure file transfers (CDs, modems, FTP) and time-consuming re-keying of customer bills of materials, and had to meet strict ITAR requirements limiting document access to U.S. citizens.

Sypris implemented Infor PLM Discrete (Product Packager), leveraging its existing Infor ERP integration, SSL security and user training to import documents and large BOMs electronically. The change cut BOM entry from as much as two weeks to hours, eliminated many manual processes, improved document accuracy and revision control, strengthened ITAR compliance and increased visibility to the production floor, supporting a move toward paperless operations.
