Des Moines WRA cuts energy consumption 30% with Infor EAM Enterprise

The Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA) serves more than 500,000 people across the greater Des Moines area and operates a mile-long treatment facility and 125 miles of piping. With monthly electricity bills exceeding $100,000—about half the city’s power costs—the WRA faced a major economic and environmental challenge to measure, manage, and reduce energy consumption across hundreds of assets.

The WRA implemented a three-tier system with Infor EAM Enterprise providing top‑tier analytics, asset sustainability and advanced reporting, integrated with Rockwell and Hach WIMS for data collection. Using condition‑based monitoring, reliability‑centered maintenance and detailed asset analytics to group and optimize equipment, the authority cut energy use by about 30%, lowered monthly bills to as little as $65,000 (saving over $250,000 annually), recovered $800,000 in inventory, achieved a 553,924 kg CO2 reduction, won awards and grants, and dramatically improved maintenance productivity.
