Alpena Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is a 146‑bed rural regional referral center in Northeastern Michigan with a 24/7 full‑service lab that routes more than 2,500 lab results per week between provider clinics. ARMC needed to meet Meaningful Use requirements and stay competitive in the lab referral business while resolving poor EMR–lab integration that produced dual patient IDs, required about 30 minutes of manual matching per result, and drove high labor costs.

ARMC implemented Infor Cloverleaf Integration Engine and Cloverleaf Secure Courier to create an automated patient ID matching system tied into its EMR interface, delivered on time and on budget. The solution increased prematched tests to about 85%, cut tests requiring manual matching from 40% to 15%, reduced staff doing manual matching from 31 to 4, and sped delivery of lab results, producing immediate and sustainable cost savings.
