UC Berkeley - Customer Case Study

The University of California, Berkeley — a large flagship campus supporting roughly 130 academic units, nearly 40,000 students and over 115,000 connected devices — needed to modernize a custom, BIND-based DDI infrastructure that had become resource-intensive, inflexible and unable to automate IPv6 or simplify DNSSEC. The legacy system required senior staff time for maintenance, risked service interruptions as device counts rose, and slowed delivery of network services.

Berkeley deployed Infoblox DDI on a centrally managed Infoblox Grid (mixed physical and virtual appliances), using APIs, Extensible Attributes, role-based access and Infoblox Professional Services for migration and integration with legacy systems. The result: automated workflows, IPv6 readiness and one-click DNSSEC, faster provisioning (from ~2 weeks to 3–5 days), about $75,000 annual labor savings, lower TCO and simpler, more reliable operations.
