Providence Health cuts DNS queries from 90K to 30K QPS with Infoblox

Providence Health, a major healthcare system in the western United States, faced networking challenges after years of mergers and acquisitions. The organization was running overlapping DDI systems from both Infoblox and Microsoft, which created a complex "DNS Spaghetti" situation. This resulted in IP address management issues, inconsistent DNS resolutions, and slow performance, all while their legacy Microsoft systems were nearing end-of-life.

By consolidating all DDI operations onto the Infoblox NIOS platform, Providence Health centralized its network management. The Infoblox solution enabled a seamless, live migration of over 600 DHCP subnets and one million DNS records with no downtime. The results were significant, including a reduction in DNS queries per second from 90K to 30K and cutting client registration times from 15 minutes to nearly instant. Infoblox provided a single source of truth for IPAM, giving the organization much better control and standardization across its entire network.
