Large North American Mobile Operator - Customer Case Study

A large North American mobile carrier within an integrated communications provider was struggling with unreliable DNS performance from open-source DNS on generic servers. The operator needed to reduce DNS latency (a key driver of customer experience and churn), eliminate platform dependencies and server‑OS patching headaches, and manage a distributed DNS footprint without overburdening its operations team or relying on manual failover procedures.

The operator deployed 20 Infoblox 4010 DNS caching appliances across six locations controlled by an Infoblox Grid with a central Grid Master for automated provisioning, configuration and HA pairing. The Grid enabled remote management and automated disaster‑recovery failover, let the carrier place DNS PoPs at the network edge to cut latency to under 3 ms, and removed DNS response time as a source of customer experience issues while reducing operational overhead.
