A Infoblox Case Study
Independence Blue Cross (IBC), the Philadelphia region’s largest health insurer with more than 2.4 million local members and over 5,500 employees, needed to modernize its aging DNS/DHCP/IPAM infrastructure. The legacy software-based system had become costly and time-consuming to maintain, required frequent patching and manual upgrades, and exposed IBC to single points of failure and migration risk as the organization prepared for new mandates and IP telephony.
IBC deployed eight Infoblox-1050 appliances with Grid™ technology to provide non-stop internal DNS, DHCP, TFTP and robust IPAM, with four units in its Harrisburg datacenter, two for disaster recovery in Valley Forge and two in Philadelphia. The new appliance-based solution automated failover, eliminated single points of failure and tape backups of the DNS database, reduced labor costs, improved disaster recovery and overall reliability, and positioned IBC to support future requirements like DNSSEC and new IP phones.
