A Infoblox Case Study
A large global communications provider and mobile operator in Asia, and a national leader in 3G services, faced a fragile DNS infrastructure built on open-source BIND running on Sun hardware. The setup required frequent manual upgrades and patches, made repeatable high-availability failover difficult, demanded skilled staff for routine administration, and risked poor web and video latency as DNS traffic was projected to exceed 300,000 queries per second per node within two years.
Infoblox deployed 11 IB-4000 DNS appliances across three cities plus an additional authoritative DNS server for the ISP business, using the Infoblox Grid for centralized management, automated upgrades, and reliable automated failover. A reporting server provided historical trend data for capacity planning while keeping data in-country for compliance. The result was reduced manual administration, improved response times and load distribution, automated HA and upgrade processes, and a scalable platform to meet projected DNS demand.
