Cable & Wireless Panama, the local arm of multinational Cable & Wireless Communications, provides mobile, fixed-line, broadband and pay-TV services. Its wireline network suffered repeated DNS-based attacks originating from Asia that knocked customer-facing services offline for 20–60 minutes, causing a spike in customer complaints and a crisis when attacks peaked on Mother’s Day.

The operator deployed an Infoblox Grid of nine hardened appliances (including Infoblox DNS Firewall and Advanced DNS Protection), Trinzic reporting and a staged migration of BIND DNS to a segmented wireline/mobile architecture. The rollout stopped the outages, cut DDoS-related incidents roughly in half, cut page-load complaints by about 50%, improved uptime and management speed, and gave better visibility into attack types and volumes.
