Broadband Service Provider - Customer Case Study

A large North American broadband entertainment and broadcast provider with over 5 million residential customers faced a major network automation challenge after new compliance rules required standardized device naming. The provider needed to rename configurations on more than 60,000 switch ports—a manual effort that would have taken roughly 9,000 staff hours over many weeks and tied up skilled engineers—while also addressing security gaps like password rotation and unused switch ports.

Infoblox NetMRI was deployed to automate the work: engineers used the GUI to generate scripts (no programming required) to rename 60,000 interfaces, archive and compare configurations, monitor changes in real time, rotate passwords, and disable inactive ports. The solution eliminated extensive overtime, freed engineering resources, closed key security exposures, and provided automated compliance reporting and continuous change visibility across corporate and customer networks.
