LearnZillion provides an open, cloud-based curriculum that helps teachers, schools, and districts improve instruction and track student performance. To better collect, store, and visualize host- and application-level metrics from their systems, they evaluated the TICK Stack but found no existing Salt Stack formula to deploy Telegraf across their instances.

To solve this, LearnZillion wrote and published a telegraf-formula that installs and configures Telegraf on Debian- and Red Hat–based systems, letting teams define inputs, outputs, and global_tags via YAML in Salt’s pillar. The formula simplified deployment, made the monitoring setup composable and extendable, and enabled consistent collection and visualization of metrics across their environment.
