Flood IO - Customer Case Study

Flood IO is a Melbourne-based on-demand load testing service that runs distributed tests with JMeter, Gatling, Selenium and more. They needed to eliminate long grid startup times, a fragile Elasticsearch-based design, and a overloaded shared test node so customers could quickly spin up tests across hundreds of AWS servers and get immediate feedback in real time.

They re-architected to a shared‑nothing design using InfluxData (InfluxDB + Kapacitor): grid nodes push metrics via a Drain proxy and Redis into InfluxCloud, with per-node Kapacitor aggregating results (15s resolution). The change removed cluster dependencies, enabled virtually unlimited horizontal scale, eliminated launch delays, and delivered real-time visibility—allowing customers to run hundreds (even 900+) nodes across regions and giving hundreds of companies actionable performance insights.
